Important Visa Information for Conference Attendees (Non Canadian Citizens)

If you are planning to attend the upcoming MGLC Conference in Canada and you are not a Canadian citizen, you may need to apply for a Canadian Temporary Resident Visa (Visitor Visa).

Key Steps to Apply

  • 1. Check Your Status

Confirm whether you need a Visitor Visa (not an eTA) by visiting the official IRCC website (https://ircc.canada.ca/english/visit/visas.asp)

  • 2. Prepare Required Documents
  • Valid passport
  • Proof of financial support (recent bank statements)
  • Purpose of travel (conference itinerary/registration)
  • Proof of ties to your home country (employment, business, family, etc.)
  • Invitation letter from MGLC (will be provided to confirmed participants)
  • 3. Submit Your Application Online
  • 4. Pay Applicable Fees
  • Visitor Visa fee: CAD 100
  • Biometrics fee (if required): CAD 85
  • 5. Biometrics Submission
  • After applying, you may be required to visit a Visa Application Centre (VAC) to submit fingerprints and a photograph.

Key Requirements to Note

  • Proof of Funds: Applicants are generally advised to show CAD 5,000–10,000 (or equivalent), depending on the length of stay and personal circumstances.
  • Intent to Leave Canada: You must clearly demonstrate that you will return to your home country after the conference.

Important Information

  • Processing Time: Varies by country and can take several weeks to months. Early application is strongly advised.
  • Visa Validity: Visitor visas can be issued for up to 10 years (or until passport expiry), with stays of up to 6 months per entry, subject to border officer discretion.
  • Agents: Applications may be submitted independently or through a personal travel/visa agent.
